Dinner meetings
The Society holds regular dinner meetings that feature guest speakers from different areas of the publishing industry and beyond.
Meetings take place at a variety of locations around central Melbourne, usually on Wednesdays. Non-members are welcome to attend. There is generally a fee for dinner meetings. Bookings are essential.

Black & Blue: The Writing Editor

Guest speaker: Glenys Osborne
It is said that every writer possesses an internal editor. But what if that editor gets paid more than the writer and is always out working for other people? Editor and novelist Glenys Osborne will talk about how she fared on the journey from the 'no' of the editor to the 'yes' of the writer, and what she found out along the way.
Glenys Osborne works as a freelance editor, teaches editing in RMIT's Master of Communication and is fiction editor for the creative journal Etchings. She was formerly managing editor at Macmillan Education Australia and at Thomson Learning (now Cengage). Her first novel, Come Inside (Clouds of Magellan, 2009), won the Barbara Jefferis Award and was shortlisted for the Age Book of the Year Award, the Commonwealth Writers' Prize – Best First Book and the Dobbie Encouragement Award. Glenys is happily working on her second novel, which will be published by Scribe in early 2013. She lives in Melbourne with her partner and their young son.
Bookings
Bookings are required for attendance. Both bookings and cancellations must be made by
5 pm on Tuesday, 13 March, 2012. Any requests for cancellation made after this point will still require full payment, as meals are ordered in advance. Attendance includes a complimentary drink and a buffet dinner, with vegetarian food provided. If you have any other dietary requests, please let us know on the booking form.
