Outstanding Service AwardsOn an ad hoc basis, a selected member of the Society is presented with an Outstanding Service Award, in recognition of their invaluable contribution to the Society. 2008 awardRosemary NobleA Victorian Society of Editors Committee Outstanding Service Award was presented to Rosemary Noble at the recent AGM. The Society first benefited from Rosemary’s many skills back in 2004 when the CASE/IPEd national conference committee was formed in preparation for hosting the conference in 2005. Rosemary was very quick to volunteer her time and commitment to the massive undertaking of creating a program for this conference – both its content and timetable. Over many months she worked with other committee members to find speakers and mould a program that was comprehensive, appealing and innovative, and also ran efficiently. It was a jigsaw puzzle with many parts and mysteries and Rosemary spent much time fine-tuning it. The conference program was fantastic and a great success, and there is no doubt that Rosemary’s expertise and hard work contributed greatly. The conference organising committee was very inspired by the success of the conference and from that successful team came many ideas for the future. The next to take shape was the weekend workshop intensive Redact, and early in 2006, Rosemary joined the team to plan the first Redact. Rosemary was very involved in planning the structure of Redact and worked with the three presenters to develop the content of the three streams and how we would organise the weekend. Over six months she worked with the group and the presenters – many meetings and lots of work. She was reliable and energetic, and a great thinker and planner. The first Redact held in October 2006 was a great success. Just to keep her on her toes, Rosemary was seconded to the committee in early 2006. Rosemary took on the task of managing the website and directing our website volunteer Angeline Yang. When Angeline withdrew, Rosemary decided to teach herself how to upload information so we could keep the website running. She worked many hours learning about the website, monitoring its mail and reviewing its content. It is only recently that she has passed the baton to Lan Wang – and with a sigh of relief. While managing the website, Rosemary again joined the Redact 2007 organising committee, working with the presenters and analysing its content and presentation. As always she was an invaluable member of this group, and once again it was a great success. Always looking for more challenges, she also decided to take on another role in July 2007 as the committee’s IPEd representative. With the growth of IPEd and the building momentum of the accreditation exam, Rosemary has worked extremely hard in this portfolio and has given up many weekends to attend interstate meetings and spent many hours involved in teleconferences, email and other related matters. Cheerful, sensible and always willing to take on extra tasks, she is a national representative that the Victorian Society can be proud of. As well as work on the IPEd website, she has taken on the responsibility for policy development, a crucial role in this formative period of IPEd as an organisation. Rosemary continues in this role, and as a committee member she is ever reliable and hard working. Her expertise and commitment to the Society has been an important part of our growth over the last four years, and the Society is honoured to present her with this award.
