Institute of Professional EditorsThe Society of Editors (Victoria) Inc. is a member of the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd). The Institute (formerly the Council of Australian Societies of Editors or CASE) is a body of delegates from the Australian societies of editors that coordinates national activities. IPEd was established as an Australian Public Company in 2008 and has set up a scheme for granting accreditation to competent editors. A list of editors accredited to date appears below. The IPEd website carries news of activities and related documents in areas such as accreditation, standards, and promotion of the editing profession. IPEd reports regularly through IPEd Notes, which appear on its website and in the newsletters of the societies. The IPEd delegate for Victoria is . Download the position description (pdf 15Kb) Guidelines for editing research thesesIPEd has launched the revised and updated edition of 'The editing of research theses by professional editors'. The guidelines were developed in 2001 by the Deans and Directors of Graduate Studies (DDOGS) and IPEd's predecessor, the Council of Australian Societies of Editors (CASE). The revision takes account of the changing environment in which many editors, students and their supervisors work. Changes include the reference to electronic editing, a clearer articulation of the editor's role, and the linking of editing functions and responsibilities to the Australian Standards for Editing Practice. To download the updated standard, visit the Guidelines page on the IPEd website. 2011 accreditation examThe 2011 IPEd accreditation exam took place on 21 May 2011. Candidates have received their results and the new Accredited Editors, who are members of the society, will receive their certificates at the August dinner meeting.
